Ingredients
  

  • For the Cake:
  • 300 g caster sugar
  • 250 g self-raising flour
  • 50 g cocoa powder
  • 200 ml vegetable oil
  • 100 ml milk
  • 3 eggs
  • Zest and juice of 1 orange
  • For the Buttercream:
  • 100 g Chocolate Orange melted
  • 100 g butter
  • 180 g icing sugar
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tbsp boiling water
  • Decorations:
  • 7 Chocolate Orange buttons
  • 7 red Smarties
  • 14 edible eyes
  • 7 pretzels

Instructions
 

  • Cake: Mix dry ingredients. Add wet ingredients and orange zest/juice. Pour into greased 9-inch tin and bake at 160°C for 45–50 mins.
  • Cool: Let the cake cool before decorating.
  • Buttercream: Beat butter and icing sugar. Add cooled melted chocolate, cocoa, and boiling water. Mix until smooth.
  • Decorate: Spread buttercream on top. Add chocolate buttons as noses, Smarties, eyes, and pretzels as antlers.

Notes

Store at room temp for 5 days.
Freeze sponge if making ahead.
Double for a layered version.
