How to Prepare

  • Boil a large pot of water. Submerge the whole cabbage head for about 3-5 minutes until the outer leaves are pliable.
  • Gently peel off the softened leaves, being careful not to tear them. You’ll need about 12-15 leaves for your rolls.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground meat, uncooked rice, chopped onion, minced garlic, and spices. Mix thoroughly.
  • Take a cabbage leaf and place a spoonful of filling at the base. Fold in the sides and roll from the bottom up.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the tomato sauce with your choice of herbs and season to taste.
  • In a large baking dish, spread a layer of sauce on the bottom. Place the cabbage rolls seam-side down, cover with remaining sauce, and bake at 350°F for about 45 minutes.
  • Optional: Top with fresh parsley before serving.
