  • 4 cloves Whole

Instructions

Directions

  • Slice the orange and halve the lemon. Start by preparing your citrus fruits; these fresh slices will enhance the cider's brightness and add a beautiful presentation.
  • Combine the ingredients in a pot. In a large pot or slow cooker, gently mix together the apple cider, orange, lemon, cinnamon sticks, cloves, star anise, and brown sugar, creating a fragrant aroma.
  • Heat for stovetop method. If using the stovetop, heat the mixture over medium-high until it gently bubbles, then reduce to low heat. Cover and let it simmer for at least 30 minutes while the spices infuse beautifully.
  • Set for slow cooker method. For a slow cooker, set it on low for 2 to 2.5 hours. This slow simmer will deepen the flavors, making it irresistibly aromatic.
  • Taste and adjust sweetness. After simmering, give the cider a taste. If you prefer it sweeter, add a bit more brown sugar, stirring until fully dissolved.
  • Serve warm with garnishes. Ladle the warm Simmered Mulled Apple Cider into mugs and garnish generously with fresh citrus slices and an optional star anise for an extra festive touch.

Notes

Optional: Add a cinnamon stick to each mug for a lovely garnish.
