How to Make Buñuelos

  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, sugar, leavening flour, and your choice of vanilla extract or orange zest until the mixture is smooth and well blended.
  • Gradually stir in the milk, ensuring everything is thoroughly combined and forming a smooth batter.
  • In a deep skillet, heat your neutral oil to about 350°F (175°C) to achieve that crispy exterior.
  • Using two spoons, carefully drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil. Fry them until they are golden brown on all sides, which should take about 2-3 minutes.
  • Once golden, remove the buñuelos with a slotted spoon and let them drain on paper towels to absorb any excess oil.
  • Allow the buñuelos to cool slightly, then dust generously with powdered sugar or cinnamon before serving them warm.
