  • 1 box cake mix choose your favorite flavor
  • 3 large eggs can substitute with applesauce for a vegan option
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil or melted coconut oil
  • 1 cup water room temperature

For the Coating

  • 10 ounces white melting wafers or colored candy melts for a twist
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or shortening

For Assembly

  • 1/3 container cream cheese frosting 1/3 of a 12-ounce container
  • to taste patriotic sprinkles for decoration
  • 12 inches lollipop sticks dip ends in chocolate for adherence

How to Make 4th of July Cake Pops

  • Prepare the cake mix by following the box instructions. Let it cool completely before crumbling into a bowl.
  • Add the cream cheese frosting to the crumbled cake and mix well until fully combined. The mixture should be moist yet firm enough to hold its shape.
  • Use a tablespoon to scoop portions of the mixture and roll them into balls. Place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment.
  • Pop the cookie sheet into the freezer for about 15 minutes to help the cake balls hold their shape better when dipped.
  • While the cake balls chill, melt the white melting wafers according to package instructions. Stir in coconut oil or shortening.
  • Dip the end of each lollipop stick into melted chocolate, then gently push it into each cake ball.
  • Carefully dip each cake pop into the melted chocolate until completely coated. Quickly add your patriotic sprinkles.
  • Place the decorated cake pops upright in a drying station and let them dry completely before serving.

Notes

Chill cake balls for 15 minutes before dipping for best results. Use high-quality melting wafers for smoother finish.
