How to Make Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

  • Combine Ingredients: In a small saucepan, mix together tamari, brown sugar, minced ginger, minced garlic, honey, sesame oil, mirin, and 1/4 cup of water mixed with cornstarch.
  • Boil the Mixture: Heat the saucepan over medium heat until the mixture comes to a boil, stirring occasionally to help dissolve the sugar.
  • Simmer to Thicken: Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer for about 4 minutes. The sauce should thicken slightly and become glossy.
  • Cool It Down: Remove the saucepan from heat and let the sauce cool to room temperature.
  • Store for Freshness: Transfer the cooled sauce to an airtight container and store it in the refrigerator for up to a week.

Notes

Use fresh ginger and garlic for the best flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to a week. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
