How to Make Overnight French Toast Casserole

  • Slice the challah into 1-inch thick pieces and let it dry out lightly.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the eggs, light brown sugar, heavy cream, whole milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, kosher salt, and freshly grated nutmeg until combined.
  • Layer the bread in a greased baking dish and pour the custard mixture over the bread.
  • Cover the dish tightly and refrigerate overnight.
  • The next morning, mix together the softened butter, brown sugar, chopped pecans, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake the casserole uncovered for about 45 minutes to 1 hour.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before slicing. Serve warm with fresh fruit and a drizzle of maple syrup.
