How to Make Traditional Cranberry Relish

  • Zest the orange carefully, then cut it into eight wedges, removing any seeds.
  • Rinse a generous cup of fresh cranberries under cold water, discarding any that are soft or discolored, and pat them dry.
  • In the food processor, combine the cranberries, orange wedges (with skin), granulated sugar, and reserved orange zest.
  • Pulse the mixture a few times until the cranberries start to break down, then process to your desired consistency.
  • Taste and adjust the sweetness if necessary, keeping in mind the flavor will mellow once chilled.
  • Transfer the relish to a serving dish, cover, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.

Notes

Optional: Add a sprinkle of cinnamon for a warming spice twist. This relish can be made a day ahead for convenience.
